I live in a rural village near Madison, Wisconsin with my husband, daughter, three hermit crabs, and two cats. My mother made the mistake of teaching me to read at three years old. She wrote down each word I learned on individual index cards and I have been stringing words together, literally at first, ever since. I have been in the publishing industry since 1996, and freelancing since 1998. Currently, I'm a freelance copyeditor/proofreader with Baen Books and Warner Books. I've been a legal editor with James Publishing, a copyeditor with the Internet Review of Science Fiction, an editor for Flash Me Magazine, a member of the editorial team at Virtual Tales, and a Bastinado.
Regarding Friending/Unfriending
If I've friended you, I might know you in real life, or have a real life connection with you, but more likely, you've said or done something interesting and I want to get to know you some more. If I don't have a real life connection with you, I've found you through a mutual friend, or through a community we both belong to.
I don't always friend back, but that doesn't mean that you're not interesting; likewise, if I unfriend you, that doesn't mean you've become uninteresting. I like to be able to read, if not actually respond to, all of the posts on my Friends list. When I have "too many" journals on my Friends list, I don't have enough time to do this, so every now and then, I prune back my Friends list to something that I can actually read on a daily basis without spending hours at a time on LiveJournal.
